Comic artist's visit to aid Katrina efforts, Nov. 17

The Graduate Student Government is hosting a visit from online comic strip author Jorge Cham at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Café Vivian in the Frist Campus Center to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.

Cham is the author of "Piled Higher and Deeper," and has agreed to donate $5 of every $12 book sold at Princeton to benefit relief efforts. All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity's Operation Home Delivery Initiative, which works to get the hardest-hit Habitat affiliates in the areas affected by the hurricanes back on their feet and prepared to build houses in their communities.

The University's Dining Services and the Graduate College Coffee House has agreed to donate food and beverages that graduate student volunteers will sell to raise additional funds.

"We hope that a good, engaging speaker will draw people to the event, and that those people will be willing to spend a couple dollars on food and drinks while they are there," said Shin-Yi Lin, who chairs the Graduate Student Government. "All the tables -- a general donation table, the food and drink table, and the book table -- will be staffed by graduate student volunteers."
