Three faculty appointments approved

The Board of Trustees has approved the appointments of three assistant professors.

In geosciences, John Higgins has been appointed for a term of 3 1/2 years, effective Feb. 1, 2012. Higgins, who specializes in paleoclimatology, currently is a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton. He earned his bachelor's degree and Ph.D. from Harvard University, and also holds a master's degree from the University of Cambridge.

In politics, Ali Valenzuela has been appointed for a three-year term, effective Aug. 1, 2012. Currently a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton, Valenzuela is a graduate of the University of California-Los Angeles and holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University. His research focuses on American politics.

In electrical engineering, David Wentzlaff began a three-year term on Sept. 1, 2011. A specialist in computer architecture, he is a graduate of the University of Illinois and holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
