Canopy at old Dinky train station on campus topples into track bed

At about 4:25 p.m. Thursday, the canopy at the former Princeton NJ TRANSIT train station tipped over into the track bed.

The 200-foot-long canopy section covered the platform area of the old station, which has been fenced off due to construction. There are no known injuries at this time.

The Princeton Fire Department, Princeton Police Department, the University's Department of Public Safety, and Princeton First Aid and Rescue (PFARS) are on scene in addition to the Mercer County task force that investigates structural collapses.

As a result of the investigation the area of Alexander Street and University Place should be avoided for at least two to three hours. Please use alternate routes for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Updates will be posted on the University homepage.

Trains continued running without interruption to the Princeton station, which last month went into service up the tracks closer to Princeton Junction.
