FACULTY AWARD: Giombi and Pretorius receive New Horizons in Physics Prizes

Princeton University faculty members Simone Giombi, an assistant professor of physics, and Frans Pretorius, a professor of physics, have each received a 2017 New Horizons in Physics Prize. The prize, which includes a $100,000 award, recognizes early-career researchers who have already produced important work in fundamental physics.

Andrei Bernevig, a Princeton University associate professor of physics, received a 2016 New Horizons in Physics Prize from the Breakthrough Prize foundation. Bernevig and two researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University were recognized for their "outstanding contributions to condensed matter physics, especially involving the use of topology to understand new states of matter." The three will share the $100,000 prize, which recognizes junior researchers who have already made important contributions to fundamental physics.
