Special Needs Housing
The special needs housing process is administered jointly by the housing and dean of undergraduate students offices. It is intended to provide special consideration in housing for students with medical conditions and disabilities.
- Students seeking substance-free housing should seek information regarding that draw through their residential college or the housing department.
- Your physical needs will receive priority attention. Secondarily, we will do our best to accommodate some of your other preferences. You are not obligated to accept a special needs assignment.
- You will be asked to identify rooms that would meet your needs. This is simply to provide some examples that would be suitable. It is used as a guideline. Your assignment will be made with consideration of all the information provided in this process and is NOT constrained to just the rooms suggested.
- You must provide up-to-date medical documentation of your condition/need, even if you were housed through the special needs process last year. Applications without medical documentation will not be considered
- Please note that Rights, Rules, Responsibilities states: "Members of the University community are expected to be honest and straight-forward in their official dealings with University processes, activities, and personnel. This obligation includes, providing accurate information on official forms and documents as well as to University personnel. Deliberate violations will be considered serious offenses...." (p. 2). Any student found to be providing inaccurate or misleading information in order to gain an advantage in on-campus housing will face University disciplinary action.
- Rooms larger than a double will not be made available during the special needs housing process. No more than two single rooms will be available to special needs applicants and their "draw group."
All special needs applicants must meet with either Angie Hodgeman, Manager of Undergraduate Housing, 5 New South, or Dean Bryant Blount '08, 314 West College, in order to be considered for special needs housing. Typically, students are divided by the first letter of their last name, with Dean Blount seeing the first half of the alphabet, and Angie Hodgeman the other.
The linked application, which will go live in early January, will need to be completed by mid-February 2017 to be considered for special needs housing. Students interested in applying are encouraged to check back in early January for updates. Please review the application carefully. The special needs housing selection process will take place at the end of February.
