A defining year in club vb history sees an official break between the men's and women's team and the men's team joining the MACVC. Upon their graduation, Steve 'House of' Shih and Jon Cieslak join the ranks of Stephens, Ragones, and Tah-Teh as legends.

Steve informally names Dave and Josh to an ad hoc Grad Board; Josh proudly acepts the post; Dave's mind is in Vail.
1995-6
With a somewhat weaker turnout, the fall season proves immensely successful; Danny Salmon, mature beyond his years, is the only freshman to make the A Team on the first go-round. The EIVA decides to accomodate neither our gender or our financial situatio
n, and in the name of poverty and in the interest of making something of a stand for co-ed athletics, we go our own way. CIT awards us the clubvb account. Boston provided us with our first-ever road trip and some great competition, despite failing to so
ber up until the thrid game against Tufts. The Temple tourney was epic, and we got to wear our new black jerseys; the 15-3 first game of the finals was the single greatest game in the history of club VB, although we choked and blew it in the rally-score
third game. We lost in the first-ever Club-Varsity srimmage, but they're No. 15, so no sweat. Spring blew as everyone else got into their league seasons; we played like crap at Rutgers, and declared the beach open thereafter.
Dave and Randy are the best middles and outsides in the East, but we still had out heads up our asses. Photos from the Boston trip.
A member of the Fab 50, Jabba plods his way from San Diego to play for varsity to revolutionize the middle position. No. 15 ranking is achieved in an epic year for the most underrated team in the NCAA. Penn St. Whumps them in Princeton's first-ever EIVA finals.
1994-5
Lots of people at tryouts. The B team continues, and Ron Gonen, Mike Nels and Terry Tran are the only frosh to make the A Team; Colleen and Basile emerge later in the year. Mike Nels later disapppears. Cindy, Dette and Bess host the first initiations at
Spelman; other parties that they did not quite compare. Dave is a CS god, and he and Josh establish the web page to be maintained in perpetuity. We made our first trip down to Baltimore and later joined the EIVA and finished second in the Centennial C
onference to UMBC, despite chicks and no money. Columbia tourney was
tragic. Josh broke his wrist by tripped over Greg against UMBC and thus
began his auspicious coaching career. The end-of-season barbeque on
Spelman Green rocked; love those wine coolers.
A slew of freshman join varsity, including Fab 50 Jeff Cooper and phenom-in-the-making Scott Birdwell. Despite signs of brilliance, they do not top the previous year.
1993-4
With an enormous turnout at tryouts, John Sheppard and Shep Pryor were the only freshmen to make the A Team; hence the B team was founded and thrived in the fall semester under the leadership of Terrie Berwick and Gary Chou. Shep broke his ankle at Lehig
h. A second-place showing at the Columbia tourament marked the season's highlight. Sheppard made varsity, but found that he was not in as good shape as he was in H.S. basketball glory days; he hit 1.000, though. Witha need for stronger organization and
a greater presence among Princeton's club sports teams, Josh and Cindy elected co-chairs, beating Miller in a hotly contested election.
Varsity has a pheonomonal season, with Hutch '94 and Trevor '95 leading the way; they go 4-0 in Calif. and lose to No. 4 Penn St. in the EIVA semis. Hutch and Dave-O hand off the torch of meatheadedness to Dan Eggers '97.
Founding
With the Purple Coach well in command of his varsity women and pseudo-varsity men, a splinter group consisting of AASA players, grads and others petition for a club VB team. In contradistinction to the "Men's Club (Varsity) Team," the Co-Ed club format i
s adopted and thrived as a single team in its early years, but was not in the mainstream of the monolith that is Princeton club sports.
The Genesis of Club VB courtesy of Irene
Chang! In the winter of 1996, the Club Sports Committee requested that
we break up the men's and women's team and abandon the co-ed format that
the founders envisioned. Josh's letter to the
Council reaffirmed the values of a coed team and subsequently provided for
the structure that we have today. (That is, until 1999! - jrs)
