The Menagerie seen from the west, ca. 1680. The engraving is not entirely accurate, especially as far as the position of the aviary (at the left of the image) is concerned.

While all the original buildings have been razed, aerial views  show the outlines of the Menagerie and its courtyards.

These two pavilions, built at the end of the 17th century by Hardouin-Mansart for the duchess of Burgundy, are the only structures remaining from the reign of Louis XIV.
