  1. Confirmed by G. W. Marcy and R. P. Butler on 1996 Apr 22
  2. Independently discovered by two teams
  3. Independently confirmed by G. Henry: Transit of star by planet and planetary atmosphere detected
  4. Epsilon Eridani is the fifth brightest star in the constellation Eridanus and is the tenth closest star to the Sun
  5. Transit of Gliese 876 detected during May 2001
  6. Direct thermal emission detected by Spitzer Space Telescope. Reported 2005 March 22.
  7. 2M1207 may be the first planetary system to be directly imaged, but it is a brown dwarf, so it may not be appropriate to call objects orbiting it planets.
  8. Fomalhaut is either the first or second planetary system to be directly imaged!
  9. HD218396 is the first multi-planet system to be directly imaged!
