Deadline:

All application materials (including letters of recommendation) must be received by January 2, 2007.  Hard copies (not e-mails or FAXes) should be mailed to:

Application Materials:

There is no standardized application form.  All applications consist of three parts.  Parts 1 and 2 are submitted (in one package) by the applicant.  Part 3 should be mailed separately by the advisor.

 

Part 1. A Full Academic CV:

Within the space of two or three pages, CVs should include:

a. Full name, mailing address, FAX and telephone numbers, e-mail address. b. Educational history, including institutions, dates of attendance, specialization, general examinations, title of thesis, and degrees awarded, for undergraduate and graduate training.

c. Details of current graduate program: all courses taken, major papers or research projects.

d. Experience studying abroad: when and where, and note any time spent at high altitudes.

e. Foreign languages studied: how many years of study, name and type of program.

f. Name, address, e-mail and phone of your current major advisor.

 

Part 2. Three Narrative Paragraphs:

Paragraph 1 should explain your education to date, including areas of focus and disciplinary specialization (art history, study of Tibetan texts, Buddhist philosophy, Indian history, etc.).

Paragraph 2 should introduce your dissertation topic (or tentative topic), including your progress to date. 

Paragraph 3 should explain what you hope to gain from the Tibet Site Seminar and what you can contribute to it.

 

Part 3. Recommendation Letter:

Letter from your major academic advisor should address your preparation, the quality of your work, the current status of the dissertation, and an assessment of how you would benefit from and contribute to the Tibet Site Seminar.  Letters should be sent directly by the advisor and should arrive by January 2, 2007.
