Certificate Requirements
In addition to taking AAS 201, Introduction to African American Cultural Practices, which is offered each year, students seeking a certificate in African American studies must take three additional courses or seminars either originating in the center, or formally cross-listed by it (see the Course Listings page).
Also, students must take two more courses drawn from a list of related courses taught in other programs and departments. Finally, race must figure centrally in the student’s senior thesis. Students majoring in Math, Engineering, and the sciences do not have a thesis requirement for the certificate.
