Professor Vargas is an Associate Professor, Chicano/Latino Studies at the University Of California, Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology (Feminist Cultural Studies) in 2003 from Univercity of California, Santa Cruz. Vargas is the author of numerous articles and the forthcoming book, Dissonant Divas in Chicana Music: The Limits of La Onda (University of Minnesota Press, June 2012).
