People: Overview

The Center for African American Studies is home to a dynamic group of permanent faculty, visiting faculty, lecturers, preceptors and research scholars. In addition, we are fortunate to be able to rely on the expertise of our Executive Committee and our Advisory Council to help in developing long- and short-term plans, goals, procedures and strategies. The faculty of the center have published a stunning array of scholarship in the fields of African American studies, anthropology, Asian American studies, cultural studies, history, literature, philosophy, politics, religion and sociology.

Noliwe Rooks

The center is home to a dynamic group of faculty and scholars with expertise across many disciplines. Above, Noliwe Rooks, the center's associate director, leads an undergraduate course, "Studies in African American Popular Culture."
