Subcommittee Roles
The subcommittees are the working groups of the AMG and the liaisons to many University offices. The purpose of these committees is to establish and maintain a dialogue, discuss general concerns, review policies and procedures, provide opportunities for professional development, and work together to solve university-wide problems. Each subcommittee is chaired by a member of the steering committee.
At the summer retreat, subcommittee chairs volunteer or reconfirm their commitment to chair a subcommittee. They solicit input from the membership on areas of concern or interest, and, with their committees, establish priorities and set goals for the academic year. Budget requests, proposed projects and revisions of the subcommittee mission statements are submitted to the AMG steer for approval. The subcommittee chair provides web page information, including mission, goals, membership, meeting schedules and any other information they consider important. The subcommittee chair reports activities to the AMG Steering Committee each month. During the summer, the subcommittee chair prepares an annual report which is submitted to the AMG Steering Committee and provides archival material to the Archivist.
Academic
The Academic Subcommittee serves as the liaison between the Academic Managers and the Office of the Dean of the College, the Registrar’s Office, the Dean of the Faculty’s Office, and the Graduate School. Recommendations on issues/topics to work on for the year are welcome. Possibilities include: room scheduling, announcements, course processing schedules, reactions to the new PS course processing environment.
Administration
The Administration Subcommittee serves as a liaison between Academic Managers and the Office of the Executive Vice President, Office of the Provost, Facilities, Public Safety, Risk Management, Development, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Office of the General Counsel. Recommendations on issues/topics to work on for the year are welcome.
Finance
The Finance Subcommittee meets regularly with Jason Knoch, Director of Special Projects, Office of the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer and others from the finance and treasurer's office, to discuss policies and procedures. The committee is called upon to review financial system enhancements, training programs, and new policy documents. We bring problems, concerns and suggestions from the academic community to Jason for discussion and possible resolution.
Human Resources/Training/Professional Development
The Human Resources Subcommittee will be working with the Human Resources management team, to maintain dialogue with all areas of Human Resources in order to address mutual concerns and work together more effectively.
ORPA/CFR
The ORPA/CFR Subcommittee serves as a liaison to ORPA, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Sponsored Research Accounting. The group’s aim is to solve problems and serve as a conduit for information on policy relating to sponsored research. Last year the group developed a working relationship with the new ORPA director, Jeffrey Friedland, and began to work on a number of customer service, training and support issues. The subcommittee plans to continue that work this year. We welcome participation and input from academic managers and grants managers.
Annual AMG Conference and Award
The mission of the AMG Conference Subcommittee is to provide an annual conference, which provides training and development to reflect the changing needs and interests of the entire AMG membership.

Other staff members may participate at the invitation of their manager, if their manager is a participating member of the subcommittee. Each subcommittee develops its own procedures, meeting schedule, and agenda. The work of the subcommittees is reported regularly to the Steering Committee and the full AMG. Representatives of offices involved in the subcommittees may be invited to the full AMG meetings as the need arises.
