Information for Prospective Students
The curriculum follows a contemporary modern dance framework that integrates practice, composition, repertory, theory and aesthetic investigation to reflect the academic excellence at Princeton. In addition to our curricular classes, we offer beginner, intermediate and advanced/pre-professional ballet classes (M-Sa) taught by teachers from the neighboring Princeton Ballet School. Students also have the opportunity to work with prominent guest choreographers each year, exposing them to diverse artistic perspectives. In addition, there are courses in World Dance, History/Criticism/Aesthetics, and Africanist Dance Practices. Further extracurricular opportunities allow students to participate in other dance forms through student groups on campus, or by taking advantage of the proximity to the vital dance community in New York City.
Should you plan to visit campus, we welcome you to participate in a ballet class or a curricular Modern/Contemporary Dance Class and observe any dance classes that appeal to you, or fit in your schedule. In the Fall, you may also observe the repertory classes or guest choreographer rehearsals. There is no formal dress code for the classes. The classes are held either at 185 Nassau Street (Hagan Studio) or at the Berlind Theatre (Berlind Theatre Rehearsal Room), both on campus. Click here for directions to the campus.
If you wish to speak with a faculty member please visit during one of their available times (see Faculty Availability). Please note: All formal application materials (including the arts supplemental application, cv, resume, dvd/video, etc.) must be submitted directly to the Admissions office, following their guidelines. The Dance Program is unable to accept application materials independently.
