Led by Scott Parker, a Wu Shu artist. The master class sessions serve as an audition for the spring 2014 Atelier/Dance course Journey Beyond the West: The New Adventures of Monkey—A Martial Arts Opera. Open to all Princeton students to participate and the public to observe.

Ayanda Clarke: The Relationship between Traditional African Music and Dance

February 17, 2014 • 2:30 - 4:20 p.m.

Ayanda Clarke, a second-generation African-American musician, will share his musical/cultural knowledge and experiences. This lecture/workshop will examine the relationship between traditional African music and dance through video viewings, historical references, experiential discussion, and musical demonstrations. The lecture will be given as part of the spring 2014 course "The American Dance Experience and Africanist Dance Practices," taught by Professor Dyane Harvey.

Members of the renowned Martha Graham Dance Company will present a lecture/demonstration of Graham’s 1962 ballet, Phaedra, accompanied by a reading by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Professor of Creative Writing Paul Muldoon. Part of “Myth in Transformation: The Phaedra Project,” a year-long series of events at Princeton.
