Ben Coonley

Lecturer in Visual Arts in the Lewis Center for the Arts

Ben Coonley is a video and electronic media artist teaching Introduction to Video and Film Production in the Fall 2008 semester. Coonley studied Art Semiotics and English Literature at Brown University, and received an MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College in 2003.
 
Ben Coonley's films and videos have screened extensively at festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, New York Underground Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Cinematexas, Impakt, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Athens International Film Festival, and the Montreal Festival of New Cinema and New Media. Recently, his work was included in the group exhibition "USA: American Video Artists at the Beginning of the Third Millennium" at the 2nd Moscow Biennale, and in "Lunchfilm" at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival's New Frontier program. From 1998-2004, Ben Coonley was a regular contributor and tour organizer for "Movies with Live Soundtracks" a DIY film/performance series based in Providence, RI. He has also presented live performances at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Robert Flaherty Film Seminar, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. He was the recipient of the Barbara Aronofsky Latham Award for an Exceptional Emerging Video Artist in 2003, and the Festival Director's Award at Cinematexas in 2001.
