Dan Safer

Choreographer/theater director

Dan Safer originally hails from the wild suburbs of New Jersey and is the Artistic Director of Witness Relocation, with whom his dance and theater work is presented in NY, across the US, across Europe and in SE Asia, most recently performing at Theater de Chaillot in Paris and Les Subsistances in Lyon. Additionally, his work as a choreographer has been seen at places like BAM, Dance Theater Workshop, Ash Lawn Opera, and some colleges in New Jersey. He has choreographed operas, rock videos and fashion shows, was a 2007- 9 recipient of the Six Points Fellowship (Performance), and is the winner of two NY Innovative Theater Awards. Artforum Magazine called him “pure expressionistic danger. He used to be a go-go dancer, and once choreographed the Queen of Thailand’s Birthday Party. He teaches at NYU.

The Princeton Atelier was endowed in 2009 through the generosity of a donor who has chosen to remain anonymous. The Atelier is additionally supported through The Newhouse Foundation, The Erik C.
