Marvin Carlson

Marvin Carlson is a Distinguished Professor and a professor in the PhD Program in Theatre at the CUNY Graduate Center. His areas of specialization include dramatic theory and Western European theater history and dramatic literature, especially of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. He is the author of Speaking in Tongues: Language at Play in the Theatre (2006), The Haunted Stage: The Theatre as Memory Machine (2001), and Theories of the Theatre: A Historical and Critical Survey from the Greeks to the Present (1984).
