Senior All-Star Art Show
The Program in Visual Arts will present an exhibition of work in a wide range of media by the Class of ’12 graduating seniors in the program. The exhibition, entitled “Senior All-Stars Art Show,” will feature recent work by students completed as part of their senior thesis projects and will be on view from May 17 through June 5 in the Lucas Gallery at 185 Nassau Street. An opening reception, where visitors will be able to meet the artists, will be held on May 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Both the exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
The work on exhibit was selected from among paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, film, video, and mixed media created by students earning a certificate in Visual Arts along with a degree in their major or a studio art degree. Each presented a solo exhibition or screening of new work during the past semester as a requirement of the program. Many plan on continuing to work in the visual arts field when they graduate, while others will take what they have learned as student artists into a career in another field. Work on display is by: Alexis Brown, Luciana Chamorro, Jaewon Choi, Joanne Chong, James Cole, Maria Cury, Cooper Gegan, Kaitlyn Henderson, Genevieve Irwin, Alex Knoepflmacher, Jun Koh, Bridget Menashé, Dao Mi, Isaiah Miller, Ruthie Nachmany, Oren Samet-Marram, and Lauren Van Zandt-Escobar.
“These students have been exceptional from the first day I met them,” notes Joe Scanlan, Director of the Program in Visual Arts. “They were so boisterous in the Junior Seminar that I could hardly get a word in edge-wise in class discussions. And when the Lucas Gallery was renovated over last summer to be a much more impressive and daunting exhibition space, all of them were thrilled about rising to the challenge. They are a genuinely adventurous, close-knit, mutually challenging group.”
The Lucas Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Special additional hours during the University’s Reunion Weekend are Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
