Joe Scanlan receives Tiffany Foundation Award
Joe Scanlan, Director of the Program in Visual Arts, has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, one of the largest single sources of unrestricted monetary awards to artists. Scanlan is one of 30 United States artists to receive the $20,000 award, which is granted biannually to artists working in the fields of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, crafts and video. Recipients were chosen from a list of more than 400 names gathered by nomination. A jury consisting of Foundation trustees as well as artists, critics and museum professionals from around the country made the selection. Artists were evaluated based on the quality and serious promise of their work, and consideration was also given to the amount of critical or commercial recognition their careers have yet received.
