Charlie Conroy awarded Trumpler Prize by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific


Dr. Charlie Conroy, assistant professor at the University of California,
Santa Cruz, has been awarded a 2012 Trumpler prize by the Astronomical
Society of the Pacific.  The Trumpler prize is given for recent PhD
theses considered unusually important to astronomy.
Charlie received his PhD in March, 2010. His thesis work, carried out with
Professor James Gunn, describes a powerful spectral synthesis code he 
developed to model the spectra of galaxies, with particular attention
to the uncertainties. He also modeled the dust emission from galaxies
and demonstrated the existence of evolutionary effecta in the properties of
interstellar dust. See:
