Emery Real Bird - Bridge Year China

Contrary to popular belief Arizona isn’t all one giant desert with magnificent Saguaro cacti dancing to the music of the stately Organ Pipes amongst Nabokovian desert moths. Instead I live high in the White Mountains of Arizona on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. I am Apache and Crow of the Pine Tree and Piegan clans. In my spare time I can be found in my favorite Vladimir Nabokov book living the life of Pnin as he drives away with, perhaps, the wrong papers. I enjoy and love books, but I seem to live in the past with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and of course Ella Fitzgerald’s wonderful croons. I’ve traveled Western Europe, the United States, and I’ve seen the pagodas in China but have yet to make it to Kamchatka or Siam, for those Risk players out there. I’ve studied alongside friends in the United States and China with my good friends at Phillips Exeter Academy and at The High School Affiliated to Renmin University. At Exeter I started learning Chinese and since I’ve already scaled the Great Wall I can’t wait to see the Burma Road and help the proud ethnic minorities in “Sijiruchun; Spring All Year-round” Yunnan.
