Emma Claire Jones
Senegal Volunteer 2013-14
Hi! My name is Emma Claire Jones and I live in Birmingham, Alabama. I live with my parents, my twin sister, Abby, who is starting school at Tulane this year, and my little sister, Lucy, who will be in 10th grade. I was born in Birmingham, but when I was 11 my family moved to Dublin, Ireland. The 3 years I spent in Ireland were absolutely amazing. I made lifelong friends and I was able to travel all over Europe. The time I spent there sparked my love for travel and my interest in languages, both of which are reasons why I am so incredibly thrilled to be spending the next 9 months in Senegal. My family moved back to Birmingham in time for me to start high school at Jefferson County International Baccalaureate. Over the past 4 years I have been very involved in the costume design department of my school’s theater. I have also become interested in global health, having done internships with a public health professor and in a local HIV clinic, and I am excited about the opportunity to see the reality of health development and to both learn and contribute in my service placement.
