Senegal Volunteer 2013-14
Hi! I’m Katie and I hail from Northport, New York where I live with my parents and my triplet brother and sister. I recently graduated from Northport High School. At school, I participated in marching band, National Honor Society, winter track, and German club. However, it was my involvement in service work that provided my most memorable experiences. During my freshman year, I had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua. There, I experienced a rich culture and a diverse people much different from my own, and I became hooked on the idea of international service work. I returned to Nicaragua four more times, helping to build homes, remodeling a feeding center , and working with local contacts to assist those in need. I also became involved with House of Grace, an organization which strives to bring aid to impoverished Leper communities in Tanzania. Being selected to participate in the Bridge Year Program and travel to Senegal is a dream come true. I am looking forward to immersing myself in an entirely new country and culture. I expect that my experiences in Senegal over the next nine months will provide memories to last a lifetime and shape my future at Princeton and beyond.
