Peru Volunteer 2013-14
I have lived in Durham, New Hampshire, a small town near the seacoast, for my entire life, and I just graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, only twenty minutes away – so moving to a different hemisphere is a little daunting! Nevertheless, I am incredibly excited to spend the year meeting amazing people, learning Spanish, and hopefully making some positive lasting impact. My academic interests include math, science, and engineering. In high school, I also did a lot of theater (producing and running tech as well as acting), sang in an a capella group, and helped other students with schoolwork as a peer tutor. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, singing musical theater at the top of my voice, and exploring the outdoors on foot or on my bicycle. I can’t wait to explore Urubamba the same way: climbing Peru’s beautiful mountains, working on challenging projects, immersing myself in a new culture and community, and gaining a fresh perspective on my life and my place in the world.
