Maddie Goertel - Bridge Year Peru

Hola! My name is Madeline Goertel, but I go by Maddie. I've lived my entire 18 years in Souderton, Pennsylvania, a small town outside of Philadelphia. Urubamba will be a big change, but one I'm looking forward to tackling with my optimism and excitement for life. I live with my mother, my older sister Aubrey, and my younger twin siblings Paul and Claire. When I'm not busy working as a tutor at my local Boys and Girls Club, volunteering, or studying, I enjoy reading, writing, singing, teaching myself the piano (slowly, but surely) running cross country, and exploring my Christian faith. At Princeton, I want to take advantage of the fantastic English and Psychology departments to learn more about group behavior on an international scale. In Urubamba, I’m looking forward to helping with education and using my Spanish language experience in a productive way. I want to be a catalyst for positive change in the world, and I hope my experience in Peru will teach me the humility and resilience I need to start.
