Another month has passed, and thirty days and nights have quickly grown to sixty-one. We five Princeton Tigers continue our daily struggle, but the struggle is going well. Even though it came second, October certainly gave September a run for its money in terms of wonders seen, fun had, and lessons learned.
Updates from the Field
After our month long stay in the Himalayas we said farewell to the soaring mountains and began our journey toward sea level. The car trip was rather jerky and the condition of the road lay somewhere between uneven and nauseating.
As October came to a close, we took a mini-vacation to Arequipa, a city in the south of Peru. Though it was refreshing to be away from the routine of our days, especially in a city as modern and accommodating as Arequipa, it was our return back to Urubamba that revealed our true sentiments. As our collectivo (public taxi) pulled into the grifo (the one gas station in town), we all sensed that we were home.
October started off with Alex Rafter turning to me and saying, "We're at a castle, staring down an ostrich, and we're in Serbia. How crazy is this?" These "we're in Serbia?" realizations happened on a daily basis at the start of our time here - I used to wake up every morning and the first thought in my head was "I'm in Serbia?"
