July 2012 Dear Butler Class of 2016, Welcome to Butler College! As the Dean, Director of Studies, and Director of Student Life of Butler College, we are delighted to add our words of welcome to those offered by the College Master, Professor Nicole Shelton. We know how excited you must be as you start your journey at Princeton, and we look forward to helping you make these next four years as fulfilling and rewarding as possible. Within Princeton’s residential college system, the Dean, Director of Studies, and Director of Student Life provide you with personal and academic support over the course of your four years here. The Dean and Director of Studies jointly oversee the academic progress of all Butler students and supervise the faculty advising system. In particular, the Director of Studies will serve as the “class dean” for freshmen and should normally be your primary point of contact in the Butler office for academic advice and support. The Director of Student Life oversees student life concerns, Butler student judicial matters, and supervises the Residential College Advisers. The Directors of Studies and Student Life also jointly coordinate all programming efforts in the college, working closely with the Butler College Council and the Resident Graduate Students. You are encouraged to come to the college office with your own thoughts on academic or social programming – we are always open to new ideas! Our office is at the top of the stairs in Gordon Wu Hall, right above the Wu Dining Hall. Please feel free to drop in and make an appointment. You will also often see us in the dining hall at lunch or dinner. Do not hesitate to come and speak with us there – we are always eager to have a conversation! You should always feel that you can telephone or email us as well with any question or concern. Among the many events and activities on your busy Orientation schedules, we would like to emphasize one event in particular. On Monday, September 10th at 3:00 pm, in the Wu Dining Hall, we will be hosting a very important information session about Princeton curriculum requirements, programs of study, and residential life at Butler College. Attendance is mandatory. Following the session, B.S.E. students will meet with their academic advisers at the Friend Center, and A.B. students will meet with their faculty and peer advisers to learn about selecting courses for the fall semester. For the most up-to-date information on your Orientation schedule, be sure to check the Butler College and Class of 2016 Path to Princeton websites. We look forward to welcoming you in person to the Butler College community in September. In the meantime, best wishes for a wonderful summer! Sincerely,
David Stirk Matthew Lazen Alexis Andres |
