The documents posted on these pages represent the culmination of more than two years of work to develop a comprehensive plan for Princeton University's campus, looking ahead to the next ten years and beyond. Each section can be downloaded in PDF format. The first seven chapters are taken directly from a 180-page book that was produced following a thorough analysis of the 380-acre campus by a team of experts and a University steering committee, with significant involvement by stakeholders on campus and in neighboring communities. As you scroll down, you will find sections covering everything from campus neighborhoods and landscaping to parking and traffic. At the end of the book chapters, there is a downloadable version of a 24-page brochure that was produced to provide a synopsis of the Campus Plan. Finally, you will see a link to a website that was maintained during the campus planning project to provide information and receive comments. That site now has been archived.

CHAPTER 1
In 2005 Princeton embarked on a major campus planning initiative, the most comprehensive in its history. It began at a critical moment when the University needed to determine how it could accommodate significant academic expansion while preserving the historic beauty and walkability of the campus.
CHAPTER 2
To shape the Campus Plan, Princeton had to balance the needs and desires of two interdependent communities: the University; and the neighboring Princeton Borough and Princeton Township. These groups share a mutually beneficial relationship, and sustaining strong community relations became one of this plan’s guiding principles.
CHAPTER 3
Princeton University has always been a dynamic institution, evolving from a two-building college in a rural town to a thriving University at the heart of a busy multifaceted community. The campus supports a living institution that must always grow in pace with new academic disciplines and changing student expectations.
CHAPTER 4
The Campus Plan consists of a vision for the campus of 2016, as well as a detailed framework and set of recommendations for how to get there. This chapter describes the vision, highlighting the areas of greatest transformation.
CHAPTER 6
In anticipation of increased power demands required by almost two million square feet of new development in the next decade, the Campus Plan recommends strategies to decrease the University’s “carbon footprint.” The campus will soon become “greener” through greater emphasis on sustainable building design, expanded landscaping and reforestation, increased conservation and recycling, and better water management.
CHAPTER 7
Princeton’s continued success as a vital institution hinges on preserving its unique character while modifying the campus as necessary to meet the demands of new student populations and academic disciplines. Although this Campus Plan covers a ten-year period, the basic planning frameworks and principles it offers are flexible enough to apply well past 2016.
