Grounds Support Area / Lot 17 Expansion / Waste Transfer Station #1

As the University adds new buildings and landscapes, the campus maintenance operations grow accordingly.

To support expanding operations, a new facility for Grounds and Buildings Maintenance will be constructed during 2012 on the site of the current Grounds Maintenance Yard off Faculty Road, south of Lot 17 and west of Bedford Field. It will replace cramped and outmoded storage sheds with a new central yard, surrounded by a storage barn, covered bins for landscape materials, plant storage space, staff support buildings and a waste transfer station. The site will be constructed to meet new campus standards for stormwater management by using underground stormwater storage and rain gardens.

Concurrent with these improvements, parking space will be added north of the yard to partially replace parking lost due to Neuroscience and Psychology Buildings. The new lot for 50 cars will be entered from Lot 17, using space now held by three unused clay tennis courts and will employ porous pavement to reduce stormwater runoff.

Completion of the yard and expanded parking is expected by summer 2013.
