Lt.- Gen. (Ret) Roméo Dallaire. "Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Affairs: Lessons for the Future." 4:30 PM, Dodds Auditorium. Over the past two decades, peacekeeping operations have encountered a host of new conflicts that have included mass murder, ethnic cleansing, genocide, and the ruthless application of force. Retired Lieutenant-General and acting Canadian Senator Roméo Dallaire served as the commander of the United Nations’ Peacekeeping force in Rwanda (UNAMIR), and observed first-hand the failure of the international community to meet these modern challenges to humanitarian rights and security. Dallaire will underline the need for new international commitments to peacekeeping and human rights that entail long-term efforts to prevent both natural and security catastrophes.

Welcome Luncheon. 12:00 Noon, Frist Multipurpose Room (in the basement). The Canadian Studies Program at Princeton invites all Canadian members of the university community to our welcome luncheon to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year! New undergraduate and graduate students are especially encouraged to attend, and of course this invitation is extended to anyone else at Princeton with an interest in the USA’s neighbor to the north. We’ll also have some announcements to make about the upcoming Canadian Thanksgiving Dinner, this semester’s Canadian Studies events, and the funds that are available for research projects relating to Canada. Free Princeton Canadian t-shirts will be given out to all who attend.
