Careers in Government:Transitioning out of Academia with Alexandra Lord
Open to all Princeton graduate students.
Alexandra Lord, creator of Beyond Academe, will speak about deciding to leave academia and finding a career which reflects your personal and professional goals. Using the federal government as an example, Dr. Lord will discuss federal careers, how to apply for a federal job, what the federal government is looking for in new hires, scholarship within the federal government, and how applications for these jobs are processed.

In 2001, Lord left a tenure-track position and crafted a new career path for herself as an historian in the federal government, even as she remained a scholar and writer. A prize-winning historian, she has also written extensively on non-academic careers for the Chronicle of Higher Education and other publications.
