Session 1 - The Academic Job Search

Cool off this summer and get a head start on your job search. The Office of Career Services and the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning are offering two seminars for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who are seeking an academic position for 2010. Topics will include the different types of institutions and professional settings available, preparing a CV and cover letter, writing an effective research statement and teaching philosophy statement. These sessions are open to all disciplines. Ice cream and toppings will be served. Space is limited. Please RSVP to Amy Pszczolkowski, apszczol@princeton.edu by August 7th.

Understanding the type of institutions to which you may apply for a position is the first important step in preparing an effective CV and cover letter for an academic position. This session will review the types of institutions Princeton graduate students have sought jobs at in the past and review the key elements of writing an effective CV and cover letter. Professor Garcia, Molecular Biology, will review the components of an effective research statement as part of the application materials required for many academic positions.
