CBE alumnae Rebecca (Weiss) Bergman ’78 and Susan Rea Peterson ’00 were recently named Technical Fellows by Medtronic. The Technical Fellows program is “designed to recognize technical employees who have significantly and consistently distinguished themselves in their field through contributions to the technical and scientific goals of Medtronic, to encourage them to further serve as technical educators, mentors, and consultants in order to foster technical excellence within Medtronic”. Bergman, who joined Medtronic in 1987, has served in several capacities at the Vice-President level, currently as VP for Research & Technology in Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management. She was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2010. Peterson joined Medtronic in 2004, after receiving her Ph.D. in Materials Science as a Marshall Scholar at Cambridge, and currently serves as Product Development Manager in the Endovascular Therapies R&D group. Since the start of the program in the early 1980s, fewer than 200 Technical Fellows have been named. Founded in 1949, Medtronic is the world’s largest medical technology company, with 45,000 employees worldwide focusing on therapies for cardiac and vascular diseases, diabetes, and neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
