Mulhearn GS4 Takes First Place in Journal of Polymer Science Poster Competition

CBE Ph.D. student William Mulhearn G4 received First Place in the recent 2016 Journal of Polymer Science Poster Award competition.  Mulhearn’s poster, entitled “Controlling Miscibility in Polyethylene-Polynorbornene Block Copolymers via Side-Group Chemistry”, was selected by a panel of judges from a pool of 161 posters presented at the Division of Polymer Physics Poster Session during the American Physical Society March Meeting in Baltimore on March 16.  Mulhearn, advised by Professor Richard Register, described how hydrogenated polynorbornene polymers can be made compatible with polyethylene, the largest-tonnage synthetic polymer globally, by changing their sidegroup chemistry, which in turn can improve the mechanical properties of the resulting material.  More information on the award, and a photo of Mulhearn being honored, can be seen on Wiley’s “Materials Views” website.  Congratulations, Will!
