The Heart House
The Heart House is a free after-school program that aims to provide academic support to children of low income families. Our group has recently partnered with the Heart House to do two science demonstrations in the summer of 2005. We presented to children grades 4-7. Our first trip to the Heart House of Austin was on June 29, 2005 where we introduced concepts of phase change to the participants. Experiments such as inflating balloons with dry ice, freezing flower petals with liquid nitrogen, and making liquid nitrogen ice-cream were carried out. Our second trip to the Heart House was on July 13, 2005. During that trip, we focused more on polymer-related experiments.
