Invitation to Apply for a Summer Research Intern

Application Deadline: November 17, 2011

The Community-Based Learning Initiative (CBLI) office at Princeton University invites LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS to apply to host a student research intern this summer. CBLI pays a stipend and housing allowance for each intern, meaning that there is no out-of-pocket cost for the selected host organization.

PURPOSE

This internship program has a specific purpose: to meet nonprofits’ needs for research and information. Information gathered by CBLI interns might be used to evaluate or improve programming, plan for future community needs, establish working relationships with other organizations, seek funding, and otherwise increase organizational capacity.

The ten-week CBLI summer internship program allows rising juniors and seniors at Princeton to learn about local non-profit organizations through immersion; to focus on those organizations’ research needs for an extended period of time; and to begin their own independent research toward a junior paper or senior thesis.

PROCESS

The selection process is competitive. If you have previously hosted a CBLI intern, we will consider that experience and feedback from previous intern(s) along with your application. Whether or not you have hosted a CBLI intern previously, the most important information you can provide is a compelling research question or area of interest. If you have in hand or know the location of relevant data, be sure to include that in your application.

DUE DATE and TIMELINE

Your application is due by Thursday, November 17, 2011. Please inform us by Friday the 11^th of your intention to apply.

CBLI staff will review and select host organizations by Friday, December 2, when we will announce the results to all applicants. Initial position descriptions will be posted Princeton’s student job board in mid-December. Students will apply in February; interviews and selection of interns will occur in March. The internship runs for ten weeks, early June through early August.

Derian/CBLI Summer Research Internships

The Derian family fund provides support for rising juniors and seniors to serve as summer research interns with local non-profit organizations.

Students selected for an internship work with a host organization for ten weeks during the summer. Research projects will be driven by the needs of the non-profit, and students may also begin work toward a related junior paper or senior thesis topic.

Interns receive a $4,000 stipend and a housing allowance, paid by CBLI.

Summer 2012

Position descriptions and host sites will be posted in TigerTracks over winter break in December. Applications will be due in February.
