People & Stories - Gente y Cuentos
grassroots humanities program supporting public access to literature
This organization offers programs for a wide variety of people, who might not have previously had opportunities to engage with stories and books, to talk with each other about their experience of literature. P&S/G&C is particularly interested in an emerging field of Narrative Medicine, and the related benefits of programming for institutionalized individuals, including incarcerated adults and youth; young people in alternative educational settings; and institutionalized seniors. Student projects may include literature reviews and analysis of similar programs; surveys of research on the benefits of Narrative Medicine; and/or the cognitive or social effects of group engagement with literature.

YWCA - ESL Program (Princeton)
english as a second language
The YWCA’s English as a Second Language program draws an array of people at all levels of literacy from nearly every country in the world. The program provides ESL education and also provides activities to address some of the social issues that impact new immigrants and others who have limited connections in the community. A number of interesting research opportunities exist with this organization: talk to CBLI staff about your interests in language, culture, and/or community-building.
