Erik Vanmarcke Receives the 2012 Alfred M. Freudenthal Medal from ASCE
The Engineering Mechanics Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has awarded the 2012 Alfred M. Freudenthal Medal to Professor Erik Vanmarcke. The award citation will read: "For developing methods of probabilistic modeling based on random fields with applications to reliability and risk assessment in geotechnical, wind, and earthquake engineering." In selecting Professor Vanmarcke for the award, the committee particularly noted that his work addresses essential problems in the fields of random vibration, computational reliability, and probabilistic site characterization, and is widely used in the earthquake, geotechnical, and wind engineering fields.
The award will be presented during EMI Conference, June 17-20, 2012 in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Congratulations to Erik on this honor.
