Jan NordbottenDr. Jan Nordbotten, Visiting Professor at Princeton University and Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bergen, Norway, has been awarded a grant from the Young and Outstanding Researchers (YFF) Scheme for his project “Modelling Transport in Porous Media over Multiple Scales”. He presented his doctoral thesis at UiB in 2004, and is the youngest person ever to have obtained a doctor’s degree at a Norwegian university. He has now also become the youngest person to receive support from the YFF Scheme.  The YFF Scheme from the Research Council of Norway provides young, talented researchers with funding for specific research projects. By doing so, the scheme is to help young researchers establish themselves in the international forefront of their field of research. The overall goal is to contribute to the development of good research leaders and to strengthen the quality of Norwegian research.  179 applications were received for the pot of 175 million Norwegian crowns, which will be shared by the 20 awardees over the next four years.
