VIDEO: Princeton's Candela exhibit now on display at MIT

An exhibit on Felix Candela, featuring models and animations by Princeton students, is now on display at the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In this video, Maria Moreyra Garlock, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton, describes the structural beauty and simplicity of thin-concrete shell structures built by Candela during the mid 20th century.

The exhibit was co-curated by Garlock and David Billington, who coauthored a book based on the exhibit, which was published by Yale University Press and named one of the top ten architecture books of 2008.

In a 2004 video, Billington discussed the role of engineering in the liberal arts while talking about his previous exhibit at the museum, “The Art of Structural Design: A Swiss Legacy.” Billington gave the 2008 Morison Prize Lecture in Science, Technology and Society at MIT.

The exhibit will be on exhibit at MIT through September 27.
