Thank you very much for the tour. When we were in New England, recently, we weren't able to visit Princeton. Seeing this tour on the computer made it a lot easier. Thanks again!

I enjoyed the virtual tour, but thought that the picture
of prospect avenue could be much improved. Also, be sure
to showcase the new music building, which is beautiful.
- 1/13/1998, 13:15, Cole M. Crittenden,
What a novel idea! I enjoyed the tour, the first of its developed kind I've seen on the internet. Thank you for a delightful trip.

What a walk down memory lane...Perhaps more so than for most alumni, since I was in charge of Orange Key when I was an undergrad at Princeton. You have done a fabulous job conveying the feel of the campus in a web tour. Congratulations, but I hope it doesn't diminish the number of people who still take the real thing. An experience for both touree and tour-giver not to be missed!

I really enjoyed your site. I have applied to Princeton, and I really want to visit the campus, but I haven't been able to.
I have heard so much about the beauty of your campus from other people, and I guess seeing pictures of it is the next best
thing to actually visiting. You guys did a good job. Maybe I'll be giving a tour some time ;).

I am interested in possibly attending Princeton. I am now a junior at John Adams High School, also in South Bend. I am ranked 1 in my class of 265. I want to go into either chemical or mechanical engineering, and saw Princeton high on the list of national engineering schools. I have already requested information, but wanted to tell you that I am possibly interested in attending Princeton. Thank you very much.

It was exciting to see Princeton University again. I grew up on the campus of Princeton.
My father was a faculty member there. It's been over twenty years since I have set foot on the campus so this tour brought back alot of happy memories for me.

Otherwise, it was ok.

I will be entering PTS this coming fall. My wife and I will not have a chance to visit Princeton before we come so it is nice to have gone through the tour.
I feel like I know at least a little about the campus and it's history. Thank you for the tour.
- 3/27/1998, 11:2, John Bright, jbright@pasen.gov
The introduction page of your tour refers to Princeton's
original mission as "training enlighted men for the
Presbyterian clergy." "Enlighted" is not a word, so I
suspect the writer meant to use "enlightened." Perhaps you
should fix that before some rival institution uses it
against you. :-)
Thanks.
- 3/27/1998, 11:15, John Bright, jbright@pasen.gov
Forgive me for appearing obsessive, but here is another
correction: on the Stanhope and Nassau Hall page, in the
last paragraph, the word "momentous" is misspelled as
"momentus."
Thanks.

This spring I will be making it my business to come to the campus and take the walking tour. I am looking forward to an enjoyable afternoon.
Thank you for taking the time to make this site as thorough and informative as it is.

Most (nearly all) the pictures appear very dark. I am not an expert in photography, but pictures with mixed areas of light and shadow often don't turn out well. the scanning process probably contributes to the degradation. Taking pictures on a cloudy day might give better results.

What a fantastic tour! I'm a member of Student Reception, a
working committee in the University of Sheffield Union of
Students in England. We are also a voluntary group who
provide tours of our Union building (just the one building)
to prospective students and visitors, and we have just
started to put together our website www.shef.ac.uk/sr~/
I'll be showing this tour to the rest of the committee as
a fantastic example of what we could do if we were ambitious
enough!
And you've also got a beautiful university, well done!

I am a 6th grade student at Upper Perkiomen Middle School in Pennsburg, PA. My mom and dad brought me to a Princeton-Lehigh football game last year. My mom went to Lehigh so she wanted to see Lehigh win, but I wanted Princeton to win. Someday, I hope that Princeton will be one of my choices for college. I would like to play football and baseball for Princeton. I liked this tour. We are coming to the Princeton football game on November 21, 1998. It will be my first time in the new stadium. I am leaving for Scotland on the 20th of Nov. and will be
giving an talk on John Witherspoon to the Beith Historical
Society. They are trying to restore his old manse. So
I decided to look on the www. This is great site. There is
an error origin on the word "campus". It was John not
Jonathan. I was hoping you had a picture of his statue.
I am a direct descendant through his youngest son David.

The following are a few suggestions to help fine
tune your excellent tour:
Our eighth president was Samuel Stanhope SMITH.
William Shippen's name is misspelled.
The original campus size was 4.5 acres.
The Chapel is constructed partially of Indiana limestone,
not Indian (this relates to the wonderful movie "Breaking
Away."
If you have any specific evidence that Dickinson Hall
was destroyed by student arson, please let me know as
I have never been able to confirm this. If the evidence
is only anecdotal, you should state it that way in the
tour.
Yours is an entertaining, informative and extremely
important Princeton web site, so keep up the good work.
If I can ever be of any historical help, please get in
touch.

I wasn't able to view your Quick Time VR movie here on the net at the University of California, Irvine. I wonder why (?!). Also, your stained glass web-page does not contain a single photo of stained glass! The 'literature' themes are interesting. How 'bout some photos?! I hope to visit your chapel one day, and attend services there, hopefully, as a student of music at PU. Your concert listing was interesting. Happy to see such activity at the University Chapel.
Best wishes,

What an absolutely wonderful web page!! I'm at Yale Med School -- and I'm happy to report Yale has nothing to compare! I just wanted to bring to your attention a minor error I found on the link entitled "Princetonians in the Oval Office": You mistakenly refer to JFK as the third -- instead of the fourth -- Princetonian who sat in the Oval Office (I did enjoy the quip about Harvard though!).
- 2/20/1999, 15:2, Esther Lee, estherlee@earthlink.net
Since I have not yet been able to visit the school, I found
the tour very informative and much more interesting than any

Out of 10, me and my friends are willing to give you 8.5 at most. And that's just for the pictures. The text was so monotonous, we couldn't be bothered to read it. However, the pictures were absolutely superb! You have a good photographer. Your university is not so rough, too. At least it's picturesque. Well, alright then. Maybe we'll come and visit again. Don't disappoint us by upgrading your website, though. It's bad enough as it is. Last but not least have a jolly good time! (Singapore)

Just thought I would pay a visit to my old baby and see how it was doing. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the format and content has changed very little, which is nice in a way as I wrote most of it! Maybe we deserve an award for being Web Sites of '96 That Are Still Standing.
Anyways, good luck with maintaining the site. A digital camera could do wonders with updating some of the photos, for example, and no doubt a few more links to student groups could be added. I'm still fond of the original logo as well (seen at the top of the guest book page)
Enjoy being a tour guide, it's a great experience you will never forget.

I enjoyed taking your virtual tour. However, I find the way you all gush on about Woodrow Wilson a bit disturbing in light of the fact that he was an outspoken white supremacist and his administration was openly hostile to blacks. Does being a famous alum and giving large sums of money to a university excuse bigotry? The fact that Wilson was undergone heroification at Princeton says a lot about the University.

I thorougly enjoyed my virtual tour of Princeton - thank you! I work at a campus where an old building is 30 years old, and new ones are going up every year. To see the gothic structures on your campus was amazing. I felt a sense of history and tradition, it came through just seeing the pictures. The gardens and grounds were beautiful. It looks like a wonderful place to attend school or to be part of the faculty or staff.

I am enjoying the virtual tour because it is short and
to the point; just interesting enough to make one want
to know more. I like the italicized words which are
defined orally or by the written word.

I was an applicant for this fall semester. I visited the campus
and loved it. Princeton was my first choice. You didn't accept
me, though. I just wanted to say that you made a mistake. I am
now a freshman at the greatest University in the Nation, The
College of William and Mary! I love it down here now. We are almost
one hundred years older than you! I am going to be successful one day
and you will wish that you would have accepted me. William and Mary's
Allumni fund will be overflowing; Your's will not. Oh well.
GO TRIBE!

i liked the tour!

Very nicely done: a good tour and an attractive
presentation. One minor typo you might want to correct:
on the chapel page, the description of materials should
probably say that the trim is Indiana limestone, not
Indian linestone.
- 10/28/1999, 0:2, Dennis Miller, crappiebuster@yahoo.com
I visited your campus earlier this year and the guide (a paid service) stated that the first president of the US served at Nassau Hall for three months.
This President was not George Washington. Who was this "real" first president? If this is true it would be good information to put on your virtual tour.
I enjoyed this concept very much and you are to be commended for your eforts.
Thank you,
Dennis Miller

Hello, Princeton U. students. As you can see from above my name is Stephanie, and I live in Lansing, MI. I attend Everett High School, and I am presiding in my junior year. I am throughly enjoying your tour, and hope to attend your school eventually. I plan to be a doctor. Well, it was nice "talking" with you. Have a nice day.

I did take part of the on campus tour, but I "got lost" in the firestone library Ernest Hemingway exibit. Although an internet tour doesn't really bear the feel of the campus, I found it quite informative and very well presented.

Well I've certainly learned a lot from your tour. I've lived here all my life and this tour was great. I attended Davidson College and one of my N.C. friends much to my dismay would like his straight-A student daughter to come up and spend some time with me and look at "the Davidson of the North". So I was looking into information for her and thinking about taking her on the actual tour. Anyway, I didn't get a chance to finish the whole thing but will be back to do so. If there is any way I can get a student to chat with my friend it would be nice to know. She's going to come up some time in December and I'll try to get her to the admissions office to chat, but I thought it would be nice to spend some time with a student if there is a student group that does this. So anyway, let me know if you can and again, great sight and tour!

Thank you for a lovely virtual tour. I happened to be in Princeton this past Thanksgiving holiday, and unfortunately was not able to spend too much time on campus. My son, Robin, received his early admission letter
for the fall 2000 class. When we visited
several schools in April and July this year, we knew
immediately that Princeton was his only choice. The Orange
Key tour then was wonderful, and your virtual tour here is
as well. The whole family is thrilled that Rob will attend
in the fall. As an administrator in higher education myself,
it is fascinating to me to visit other schools in person as
well as in virtual format. You have done an excellent job.

- 12/21/1999, 10:38, Gautam Ghosh, gg1@mm-croy.mottmac.com
Well done. The whole tour and all the little details provided as one goes from page to page gives a sence of familiarity in getting to know the place of Princeton.
This idea of having an on-line tour certainly (to me) is original, and should be developed into something that one can enjoy in more detail sitting at the computer. I am sure that for past students having left Princeton it will be a reminder of good days spent studying.

Very nicely done; a good model for us to follow. BUT as an alumni member of Prospect Club, I'm distressed that there's no photo of my old club on the page of historic shots of the eating clubs. Not all the clubs on the page are still in existence, so why has Prospect been left out? If it's intended as an historic retrospective, let's make it complete...

What fun to take a virtual tour of the main "attractions" on the Princeton campus. There is so much information and wonderful photos ... I'll revisit this site often. My father graduated from Princeton, Class of '22 ... he lived in Patton Tower, and one of his roommates was Adlai Stevenson! I kind of wish Patton Tower were included in the tour, but that's OK. My mother, husband and I came to the reunion last weekend ... now THAT is an experience! No way to describe it to people who haven't seen it ... we'll have to come again, armed with camcorder. Princeton is a marvelous institution ... I'm proud to be even peripherally associated with it. Thank you for the tour.

As the Director of Church Relations at a small, 80 year old Christian Liberal University in Orange County, California, I am deeply interested in your Christian roots, and in the quality of spiritual/Christian life on the campus today.
I was drawn to your web page by an article telling of your on-line classes, in "Currents", the monthly publication of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education" (CASE). I'll be up there in a week for the SVC UA2000 program and then my first year at Princeton but I love the mythology surrounding the place. The stories on the tour are excellent (I never took a live one) although some are lacking detail and simply repeat what is told in the general spiel page where the story link is located. Great job on the site though- it runs very smoothly and loads up extremely quickly on this old bird of a computer. thanks!

I was impressed by how comprehensive this virtual tour has been. From the looks of it, the campus has maintained its 19th century architectural design while managing to remain abreast of modern times. That I particularly like about the school.
- 9/3/2000, 15:41, Dauna Beutel, JaxBeutels@aol.com
I was so thrilled to be able to tour part of your
magnificent campus! Go Tigers!

Nice job--pls consider taking another look at your photographs. Shade has made many pictures dificult to make out. Take a look at Brown's tour.

Nice photos and text, interesting history. But the campus map is way too small to be able to read; a larger map would be a real asset, especially to a PTS student who is taking a course at PU and who doesn't know her way around!
- 10/1/2000, 20:48, Carolyn Nestle, schc14@juno.com
I got a pretty good feel for the school, from the virtual tour. It was well put together. Thank you.

I am glad that there are sites such as this one that are available to students that are interested in going to Princeton but unfortunately do not have the funding to personally visit the prestigeous university. I admire the efficacity of this website. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

I really enjoyed your tour although I do not feel that I have gained the overall feeling that I was looking for. It would have been nice to see an arial view of the campus to establish its layout. It is hard to tell from the pictures the orientation of the buildings. I also would have liked to see Princeton in different seasons. I am from California and would like to know what to expect when moving to the east coast. Thank you.

Your online tour was very interesting and informative. I look forward to visiting your gorgeous campus in person this summer.
- 10/18/2000, 14:23, Grace, www.firewind78@yahoo.com
I love everything about the university! All the building on the campus have a beautiful historical background and design. I am currently attending a local university in my hometown. I am considering applying for the master/PHD graduate program after I complete my bachelor degrees. Thank you for the amazing tour online and the wonderful architectural pictures which is now my desktop wallpaper.
Thank You

I love Princeton University, so much. It is definetely my first choice when I go to apply to colleges next year, and this tour only confirmed what I already knew to be true-- that Princeton is a gorgeous, wonderful place with a sense of history as well as a sense of humor. Thank you so much for letting the world full of people like me see the beautiful campus from their home!
- 11/25/2000, 10:15, Asha Ambrose, ashesinthewater@hotmail.com
I found the tour to be extremely informative as it gave me an insight into the historical background of the university as well as the every day activities that take place on the campus. I especially appreciated the historical photos from the 250th Anniversary Collection which highlighted the development of various aspects of Princeton University.

Very impressive virtual tour -- one of the best I have seen. Unfortunately, because of low band-width of my ISP, I had to skip most of the multimedia material. Is it possible to include 360 degree pictures, as used in Encarta. I think they are not too big, and give the feeling of being there.

As a member of the Class of 2004, this tour has made me even prouder to be Princetonian! Princeton's rich history is incredibly inspiring. The tour does a wonderful job conveying that history. Bravo!
- 1/7/2001, 18:36, Michael I. Mashioff, Skimash@aol.com
The campus at Princeton is the way I always envisioned a University. After visiting on multiple occasions, I beleive that the historical and traditional feel of the buildings (ie. Nassau) in addition to the people at Princeton force me to hope for my acceptance.
- 1/12/2001, 19:21, Adam Reich, Adman511@Aol.com
The virtual tour was great. It gave me a much better feel for the campus than the Admissions Pamphlet. Although I wasn't able to visit Princeton, I feel that the Orange Key Tour helped me become more intimate with the school.
- 1/14/2001, 13:35, Leigh Schanfein, detarleigh@yahoo.com
I would appreciate the tour much more if I were able to see the interiors of the buildings.
- 1/17/2001, 23:52, Levi Sandelin, sandelin@bellsouth.net
Extraordinary!! Of all the website virtual tours that I have taken, this one is by far the most informative and illustrative--this is truly representative of an extraordinary academic institution!

- 2/4/2001, 16:26, Catherine Clancy, Big Red 86@aol.com
I actually visited Princeton today, and I absolutely fell in love with the campus. It was gorgeous! Last week I had called the admissions office to let them know that I was planning on coming to take the tour this Sunday, and the student with whom I spoke said that that was not a problem and that I should just come by for the tour. Unfortunately, she didn't tell me that there were no tours this weekend, but I had a wonderful time exploring the campus myself, and I can't wait to stop by later in the spring.

The tour was exceptional. Not having had the time/forethought to visit, I had regreted not visiting. Your tour has lifted all guilt I had felt about not visiting as I have an alumnae inteverview tomorrow.
I must say though, the part on the 'new' student center might be updated, and the grammar got a little iffy in the section on the physics and mathematical buildings. (Coincidence?;-)
Thanks again for the great resource.

You guys did a really fantastic job with your on-line tour -- and trust me, I would know. I'm on a college hunting trip (doesn't that sound violent?) during my spring break, so I've been comparing the websites of the various and sundry colleges I'm interested in. Although I'm not visiting Princeton on this trip (I already came by on the day the Frist campus center was dedicated; talk about idyllic), it's been one of my favorites so I thought I ought to compare it, too. It really is like being on the campus, and the scans are beautiful; they may not be perfect, but you CAN see the cannonball scar on Nassau. You're holding up well against all the other on-line tours I've seen!
good job and hope to see you in the fall of '02,
Leslie

The pictures are great; more of them would be lovely. I would also like to see Burr Hall highlighted since the family is so well represented in the college's initiation. Actually, more should probably be done on the transition from the College of New Jersey to Princeton and its early affiliation geographically associated with its minister-founders.
