Accessing and Harnessing Metalated Intermediates Toward Synthetic Utility
The tremendous capacity of transition metal catalysis to forge new chemical bonds cannot be understated. These processes generally involve a metalated intermediate, wherein a metal is associated with an organic substrate in some construct. To continue to develop powerful and useful synthetic transformations in this area, we must develop new ways to access and understand the nature of these metalated intermediates. Strategies for selective access and subsequent manipulation of these species will be described in the context of platinum-catalyzed alkyne functionalization and palladium-catalyzed directed oxidations.
