CHW faculty associate Joćo Biehl, wins a major book award.

Joćo Biehl’s book, Vita: Life in a Zone of Social Abandonment (University of California Press 2005), has received the following awards: 

  • Stirling Prize of the Society for Psychological Anthropology, American Anthropological Association
  • Leeds Prize of the Society for Urban, National, and Transnational/Global Anthropology, American Anthropological Association
  • Benjamin L. Hooks Outstanding Book Award, Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change
  • Eileen Basker Memorial Prize of the Society for Medical Anthropology
  • Honorable Mention, the Victor Turner Prize for Ethnographic Writing of the Society for Humanistic Anthropology
