The Adel Mahmoud Global Health Scholars Program
The Adel Mahmoud Global Health Scholars Program provides outstanding Princeton students with funding for travel and research to pursue global health-related internships and senior thesis research. This competitive program, administered by the Center for Health and Wellbeing, is open to students from all departments. The program, which is supported by Merck & Company, Inc., is named in honor of Adel Mahmoud M.D., Ph.D. for his distinguished career at Merck & Company, Inc. and his pioneering work in global health. The first cohort of scholars was admitted in the fall of 2007.
Up to six juniors will be selected each year for the scholars program through a rigorous application and selection process focusing on both academic performance and plans for work and research on global health issues. The scholars are supported by the program through their junior and senior years. Scholars are provided with financial support to engage in health-related internships or independent research on global health in the summer before the senior year, and are expected to write senior theses on topics in global health. The Scholars also participate in planning the Adel Mahmoud Lecture Series in Global Health and have the opportunity to interact with distinguished speakers during their campus visits.
Detailed information about the 2008-09 cohort of Mahmoud Scholars is available online.
The application process for 2009 Scholars is now complete.
Students interested in applying to the program in future years should check this website for details in mid- or late September.
