The Center for International Security Studies will host the first annual research workshop of the Five-University Collaboration on East Asia Security Cooperation and Regional Governance on December 11-12, 2009 at Princeton University. Bringing together scholars from Princeton and its institutional partners, the University of Tokyo, Peking University, Korea University, and the National University of Singapore, the Five-University Collaboration is the first U.S.-East Asian inter-university research network of its kind and will support a sustained discussion concerning East Asian security cooperation and regional governance.

The Center for International Security Studies is pleased to announce a new initiative - a program titled "India and the World" which will focus attention on the rise of India and its implications for international security. This program is directed by Professor Shivaji Sondhi of the Department of Physics and was launched by an inaugural lecture on October 7 by Bharat Karnad of the Centre for Policy Research, Delhi. Professor Karnad is visiting CISS as part of the new program during the months of October and November and is leading a series of lunch discussion groups (by invitation only) on a variety of topics regarding India, its national security, and relations with other countries in the world.



The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and Princeton University announced the creation of its new Center for International Security Studies in Spring 2009.  This Center will provide a home for the study and debate of national and international security and will support a variety of educational, research, enrichment, and outreach activities with the intent of generating new knowledge on issues of fundamental importance and educating the next generation of strategic thinkers and decision makers. It will also seek to establish research and policy links with other institutions around the world. Professors Aaron L. Friedberg and G. John Ikenberry serve as Co-Directors of the Center. An inaugural symposium, "International Security in a New Era of Crisis,"  was held on April 30 and May 1, 2009.
