Emilio Carlo Maria Capettini
Profile
I was trained as a classical philologist at the University of Pisa and at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. My BA dissertation, which resulted in the publication of a short note (“La ‛vera’ Andromaca: Eur. Tro. 731-732”, MD 58, 2007, pp. 217-223), was devoted to the analysis of the transformations of the Homeric Andromache by Greek and Latin tragedians, whereas my MA thesis examined Achilles Tatius’ novel, focusing on narrative strategy and characterization devices.
My main research interests lie in the reception of Homeric poetry during antiquity and in erotic literature, both in meter and in prose. At the moment, thanks to a wide array of exciting courses, I am exploring various fields of research in Classics I am less familiar with; in the future, I hope to be able to study more closely Heliodorus’ Aethiopica, on which I have given a paper at the international conference “The Erotics of Narrative” organized by the Kyknos Centre for Research in 2009.
