Prospective Concentrators
Majoring in The Classics
Students interested in majoring in Classics, should have completed Greek 108 or Latin 108. A strongly motivated student who has completed Greek 102 or Latin 102 may concentrate in the department with permission of the Departmental Representative.
All Classics majors must complete at least one advanced course in Greek or Latin (courses numbered 300 and above). A total of eight departmental courses are required for graduation, which may include courses taught in translation and courses offered by other departments.
All language courses and seminars are small, seldom exceeding 15 students. Lecture courses in translation are supplemented by precepts, and smaller classes meet once or twice a week in which the readings and the lecturer's remarks may be discussed and challenged.
