Martin A. Mbugua, director of media relations & university spokesperson, is responsible for speaking on behalf of the institution and disseminating Princeton's major news to the news media. He also assists members of the University community with media outreach, interviews and media events; facilitates press access to campus; and contributes news articles to the University's print and online news vehicles.

Prior to arriving at Princeton in May 2011 to become University spokesperson, Mbugua served as communications and marketing manager for the Murphy Institute at the City University of New York. From 2004 to 2010 he was senior news editor for the University of Delaware, where he served as a media spokesperson and was part of the news planning and management team. Mbugua was previously a staff writer for the New York Daily News, where he was part of a reporting team nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in recognition of superior reporting of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Delaware and a Master of Arts in government, politics and international relations from St. John's University, where he also earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism. In his free time Mbugua enjoys cycling, hiking and politics.
