Princeton University Best Practices for Facebook
For units that have determined how they will use Facebook as part of establishing their social media strategy, and that have reviewed the University's overall Policies for Social Media, this set of best practices provides a guide for building a successful Facebook presence.
Facebook is a privately owned, free social networking site. An account is required to see most content. It is commonly used for sharing a broad range of media -- photos, video and text -- and to open a direct dialogue with "friends" and "fans." This network is optimal for identifying people who are interested in your University unit and distributing information directly to them.
The most common concerns among users are security and personal privacy. Also, some users will move away from a unit's page if they feel they are being bombarded with too many posts or useless information. This document encourages best practices for using Facebook as an interactive social medium.
